The
niche that our business operates in is small business. Don�t get hung up on
the word �small� � that word encompasses a broad range of businesses � even
those with gross revenues of $10 million dollars and more. What it
really means is that the management of these businesses is the primary
responsibility of the owner and perhaps a core key team.
There
are different issues for business owners depending on where there business
is operating from � a start-up business has unique concerns and the major
one is usually related to a lack of cash and not really knowing what running
a business encompasses.
Other
businesses can survive the startup period but the owners are still suffering
from the same problem � a lack of cash for personal consumption being made
available by their business operations � most businesses feel that one!
Businesses that are aggressively striving for growth are where I wish I
could spend all of my time. Growth occurs for most businesses over a long
period of time. There are ups and downs cyclically through periods but
ideally they have sustainable growth over the long run. There are many
challenges that owners face where we as �outsiders� are able to see things a
little differently. We have the intimate knowledge of how the business
operates and we also have our finger on the financial pulse as well. The
great exception is that we are not running that business so therefore we can
provide a sense of calm and reasonableness when working through either
negative or positive building blocks that come along.
I read
everything I can get my hands on that relates to business management and
growth. There is a vast amount of information out there and although most
of it follows the same vein, each article or book I read brings new
insight. I also take the successes and failures that I gain from all of my
business clients and share that information with others walking the same
path � including myself!
